When it comes to security, more often than not we are our own worst enemies.

In a The Enterprise Security Challenge: Turning Security in a Business Enabler webinar presented by McAfee, it becomes pretty clear how inefficient most IT organizations are today when it comes to security.

There is not much in this presentation about actually enabling business. But there is a thoughtful discussion on how misguided a defense in-depth security strategy can be when it leads to the procurement of all kinds of security devices that have to be maintained. Worse yet, most of these devices don’t really communicate with each other so there is no real depth to the defense, only seams that attacks such as Conficker can exploit.

Colin Dover, senior director for product marketing at McAfee, makes a compelling case for consolidating security appliances to not only reduce cost, but also increase the effectiveness of IT security.
