The Changing Dynamics of Server Virtualization

There’s no doubt that we’re just starting to tip the number and type of applications that can now be effectively run on a virtual server.

In a How to Get at Least 2X Greater Costs Savings from Virtualization webinar presented by Marathon Technologies, it’s noted that right now only 15 to 30 percent of applications in an enterprise are running on a virtual machine today.

This should change significantly as new virtual machine offerings coupled with next generation servers are now capable of effectively running five times as many virtual machines per physical host. At the same time, mission-critical applications such as databases, Microsoft Exchange, Blackberry Enterprise servers and ERP applications are just now beginning to make the move to virtual servers.

One these facts are established, however, the majority of the rest of the presentation is taken up discussing the disaster recovery and fault-tolerance attributes of Marathon’s everRun software.
