Debunking VMware Performance Myths

The common wisdom of the day holds that virtualization introduces a lot of overhead that adversely affects application performance.

In a Virtualizing Tier 1 Apps on VMware vSphere: Exchange, SQL, Oracle, SAP webinar presented by VMware, the latest version of VMware’s virtualization platform is touted as being able to match or exceed the performance of applications running on their native platforms.

Gaetan Castelain, senior product marketing manager for VMware, walks attendees through how even the most demanding mission-critical applications from Microsoft, Oracle and SAP can now run effectively on top of vSphere 4. This has significant implications in terms of saving money on licensing costs for some of the most expensive applications in the enterprise, he said.

Castelain also notes that with the latest version of VMware’s software, customers are seeing server consolidation rates of anywhere between five to one to 10 to one. The rest of the presentation focuses on how capacity can be dynamically added to any virtual machine in order to meet any service level agreement requirements and how VMware has added application monitoring and provisioning tools to the platform.

This presentation is the latest in a series of VMware vSphere webinars, inlcluding one that focused on private cloud computing and load balancing and I/O performance.
