How to Set Up a Desktop Virtualization System

One of bigger desktop computing challenges of the moment is setting up a virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI).

In a Creating an Enterprise VDI Solution with XenDesktop webinar presented by Citrix, some practical advice is shared on how to configure a VDI solution that will actually work.

Dan Feller, a senior architect for Citrix Systems, goes into detail about how to best configure Citrix XenDesktop for various VDI scenarios. He shows, for instance, how to get up to 58 desktops supported by the same 2.4 GHz, dual-core server configured with 32GB of RAM. How to put 48 different servers into a pool to support over 3,000 virtual clients, why six IOPs are what each client generates on average, and why it’s important to use a 64-bit version of Windows Server 2008.

In short, there’s a ton of practical advice and tips on how to make VDI work, in addition to some discussion of the various forms of desktop virtualization currently available.
